The Power of Giving

On GivingTuesday, You Can Help Turn Poverty Into Possibility

We’re making the power of a dollar go further in the fight against poverty on GivingTuesday, December 3. Will you join us?

There are 736 million people around the world who struggle to meet their basic needs. These are people who are often one crisis away from financial disaster from which they can’t recover.

But on GivingTuesday you can help restore hope and possibility to their lives. On this day, you can join millions of people across the globe as they come together in a movement of generosity to support causes in their communities. Through the force of collective giving, every individual act of volunteerism or donation to United Way is amplified by the sheer number of people who participate on this global day of giving.

Established in 2012, in the U.S. as a celebratory kickoff to the holiday giving season, GivingTuesday happens on the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and has become a worldwide philanthropic event. Last year, more than 3.6 million people from 150 countries joined together to raise $400 million on GivingTuesday. And United Way stands ready to keep the momentum going this year to help people find their way out of poverty around the world.

In recent years, the power of giving has enabled United Way to help more than 1 million people access affordable housing as well as financial products and services, and nearly 700,000 people receive job skills training for career opportunities.

With every dollar donated on GivingTuesday, we know we can do more. Our goal is that, over the next decade, we will help 5 million people to get better jobs—jobs that will help raise them from poverty to financial stability.

Won’t you join the world on GivingTuesday, December 3, to help support more possibilities for more people to find economic mobility? If you’ve never been a part of GivingTuesday, let this be your year to use the power of a dollar to provide life-changing financial stability, in Butte and Anaconda and around the world.
